That is the goal of the international World Foresight Forum (WFF), a new global summit which will take place on 13 -15 April 2011 in the Dutch city of The Hague. A sneak preview for the international press was held yesterday. At the sneak preview, three new reports were presented, which reflect several themes of the forum. The reports focus on resource scarcity, the financial crisis and power shifts due to the rise of China.
The new reports – called issue briefs – each zoom in on a specific worldwide problem. Similarly does the forum in The Hague, which centers around six key themes: ecology, demographics, technology, economy, security and culture. A prominent panel explained these themes in detail yesterday. Members of the panel were Jeroen van der Veer (former CEO Royal Dutch Shell, Chairman Supervisory Board Philips), Rob de Wijk (Director of the Hague Center for Strategic Studies), Gerben Klein Baltink (Director TNO) and Joel Wyler (Chairman of the WFF Foundation). They emphasized the enormous impact these core themes have on the stability and security of our world and the welfare of its citizens.
“These worldwide challenges require an integrated, international approach”, said Joel Wyler. “That is why we organize an international forum together with a large number of leaders from politics, science and industry. The forum will be held in The Hague from 13 to 15 April and will focus on the theme ‘A secure and sustainable world for future generations’”.
According to Rob de Wijk, a publication such as “Rare Earth Elements and Strategic Mineral Policy" reveals that there is a clear link between the scarcity of basic raw materials and the emergence of conflict. “During the World Foresight Forum, we look for tangible solutions to problems that concern us all", De Wijk said
